A 2-day Brașov itinerary without a car: on day one you explore the old town on foot – the Council Square, the Black Church, Republicii Street, Rope Street, the First Romanian School in Schei and Catherine’s Gate – and on day two you go up Mount Tâmpa, on foot or by cable car. Everything is within walking distance of C65 Urban Suites on Castelului Street.

You don’t need a car. You don’t need complicated plans.
All you need is two days and a good base in the heart of the old town.
From Castelului Street, the city opens up in front of you like a story you live on foot.
Day 1 – the Brașov that slowly wins you over
The morning starts quietly. Coffee on the terrace, fresh air, the view of Mount Tâmpa. Then you set off on foot, unhurried, towards the Council Square (Piața Sfatului). In under five minutes you’re there – in the middle of the city’s buzz: terraces, conversations, the smell of fresh coffee and buildings that seem to come from another age.
From here it’s a few steps to the Black Church. Go inside. Even if you’ve seen many churches, this one is different. The space, the light, the silence. When you come out, stroll down Republicii Street – pedestrian, full of life, with shop windows, gelato bars and people walking without hurrying.
After lunch, let the little streets carry you. Walk through Rope Street (Strada Sforii), one of the narrowest in Europe, and feel the city change as you get closer to the Schei district.
On your way to the First Romanian School, stop at Gelato Mania. Get an artisanal ice cream – it’s exactly the kind of break that turns a walk into a memory. Then carry on to the school. The place is quiet, authentic, full of history. Here Brașov isn’t just beautiful – it’s also profound.
On the way back, pass by Catherine’s Gate (Poarta Ecaterinei). Stop for a moment. It’s one of the most beautiful gates of the old citadel and worth a few minutes just to look at it.
In the evening you’re back on the terrace. The fireplace lit, a drink in your hand and the view of Tâmpa. It’s the kind of moment worth coming for – warm, quiet, far from the bustle.
Day 2 – up above the city
The morning belongs to the mountain. Tâmpa is waiting. You can hike up (one hour, two, at your own pace) or take the cable car – the station is just a 10-minute walk away. From the top, Brașov looks like a painting. The colourful houses, the old town, the mountains all around. Worth every step.
After you come down, you have time. You can stay in town and walk along the citadel walls, take a trip to Bran Castle – the famous “Dracula’s Castle”, about 30 km away, roughly 40 minutes by car – or simply wander streets you haven’t seen yet. Brașov has many corners that don’t appear in guidebooks but stay with you.
The last evening is on the terrace again. The fireplace, the view of Tâmpa and the feeling that you’ve lived something beautiful, unhurried and without missing what matters.
Why this weekend works
Because everything is close.
The Council Square, the Black Church, Rope Street, the First Romanian School, Catherine’s Gate, Tâmpa – all within walking distance of Castelului Street. In the evening you don’t need to rush anywhere. You come back to a terrace with a fireplace and a mountain view, exactly where you want to be.
It’s a great itinerary for couples. It’s great for families too. It’s great for anyone who wants to feel Brașov, not just tick it off.
